Franklin Cudjoe, President of Policy Think Tank, IMANI Ghana, has insinuated that a large number of business owners and professionals who were swayed to back the governing New Patriotic Party government led by President Akufo-Addo are feeling some form of regret almost three years since the President took office, ABC News Ghana can report.
The IMANI boss reckons, for a large number of these people, whom he terms ‘middle class’, there is the notion that they may be ridiculed by appendages of the opposition party in Ghana, the NDC, should they voice out their dissatisfaction with the output of the government thus far.
In a post on his Facebook page, Tuesday, Franklin Cudjoe advised the government to focus more on telling the gains they have chalked within the over two years stay in power instead of making promises about what they hope to do beyond the next elections, if their mandate is renewed.
This, the IMANI President, suggested will be of great importance as that is what they will be measured by as they end their first term of office.
“What worries me most is the deepening perception of ‘mass disappointment’ quietly being fed by middle class folks who feel they’d be mocked by the opposition should they express their disappointment in public. Frankly, I do not know what can cure this level of despondency except to urge my dear friends in government to stay on message, focus on telling their own story of how quantifiable their delivery has been. However, they must desist from creating and sharing stories of the great impact they will be making beyond 2020 as that seem to further infuriate readers.” he noted.
Though he admitted that he is not in a capacity to authenticate the successes claimed to have been achieved by the government since 2016, he confessed that some efforts have been put in to delivering on their mandate.
In an attempt to measure the level of success or failure of the government, the IMANI boss hinted that his outfit is conducting a survey across the country to evaluate the impact of the implemented policies and programmes.
The outspoken head of the Policy Think Tank submitted, “What do I personally think about their performance so far? I think they are trying but I am yet to verify all the good they seem to be doing and above all else, quantify them. My guys at IMANI have just concluded one such metric of telling how innovative or otherwise some of the interventions at the MDA level is shaping our country for the needed growth with purpose. They are reviewing the report results of which will be shared with the public soon. There are more reports on how the government fares, fared to come.”
