The Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi , in partnership  with Skyy Media Group, is sourcing  funds for the purchase of ventilators for the hospital.

Dubbed “Ventilator Project,” the partners are passionately appealing to individuals and organisations for donations toward the project. Donors who cannot physically visit the hospital are to deposit their contributions into Momo Account Number 0591444435.

Dr Kojo Tambri, the medical officer in-charge of the hospital, said the donations will go a long way in saving lives of prospective Covid-19 patients at the facility, which can presently not boast of a single ventilator.

He said the authorities are targeting three or four of the life-saving machine.

The issue of absence of a single ventilator at the Effia-Nkwanta and all health facilities in the Western Region has generated controversies among members of the two major political parties with each blaming the other for the situation.

Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, member of the opposition NDC Covid -19 team and the party’s parliamentary candidate for Esikado-Ketan, is at the centre of these controversies.

The medical doctor, who is reported to have accused her own party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, of failing to secure the Effia Nkwanta hospital a single ventilator during his presidency, is not only bashing the NPP for fabricating that story but also   moving from one local radio station to the next in a desperate attempt to disclaim the accusation.

Ambulances

Information available to the Daily Statesman, however, indicates that there are ventilators in all the 17 ambulances recently donated to the region by central government, with plans to supply more.

Meanwhile, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Regional Minister, has donated 15 boxes of infrared thermometers to the health directorate for Covid 19 screening at the various entry check points.
