Mr Darfour cuts sod for the opening of the isolation centre

The Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour, has opened the first isolation and treatment centre of the Eastern Region for Covid-19 patients at the Atua Government Hospital.
The hospital offered its male ward to be used as the isolation and treatment centre after getting a new male ward.
The newly created isolation facility can take up to 50 people who can conveniently, medically and appropriately be treated.
A short ceremony held at the hospital on Wednesday June 3 to open the centre saw in attendance the Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Alberta Biritwum-Nyarko, the Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya, Simon Kwaku Tetteh, chiefs, health practitioners and the general public.
Opening the facility, the Regional Minister expressed appreciation to the health workers for going through the stress of contact tracing and transference of tested samples in-and-out of the region.
He encouraged them to do more, saying what they are doing is service to mankind, service to Ghana and service to God.
Collective effort
Dr Biritwum-Nyarko disclosed that they had to dialogue with the medical superintendents to help the region set up an isolation centre because the region did not have one.
She expressed gratitude towards the good works of the Atua Government Hospital’s management, especially for making it possible for the region to get a treatment facility even though the hospital had no idle grounds.
“They actually did not have any place lying idle because this facility is part of the hospital structure being used for work. But they decided that, for the good of all, they would sacrifice and give out this structure so we can use it for the region. So, if we are here today, we are here to say thank you to all the staff and leaders of Atua Government Hospital,” the doctor added.
The Regional Health Director indicated that the outbreak has affected the region in diverse, but added that with team effort, the region is responding appropriately to the pandemic.
“All the successes we have chalked have been because everyone, including the security agencies, NADMO, Education Service and the Information Service Departments, have come on board. And it is because of this team effort that’s why we are able to record less number of cases and more recoveries to contain the outbreak. We are here not because the health service has done something but together the Eastern Region and every one of us has done something positive for us to achieve this,” Dr Biritwum-Nyarko maintained.
