Management of the Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) has postponed the reopening of the Kojokrom-Tarkwa railway line to Saturday, April 11 2020.
It was originally planned to be opened on Monday March 16.
The company in a press release said the postponement is due to a request from the Ghana Railway Development Authority to help the contractor extend some culverts.
“This is after GRCL received a letter from the Ghana Railway Development Authority, the regulator, indicating that the request by the contractor, Amandi Holdings Limited, who is constructing the standard gauge railway line alongside the existing narrow gauge line and the consultant, TEAM Engineering ASPA have expanded the number of culverts between KM16+000 TO KM 23 + 500 on the western line,” it indicated.
The management further indicated that “the extended period would enable the contractor to achieve significant progress before the onset of the rainy season.”
The Ghana Railway Company Limited first suspended passenger service on the Takoradi-Tarkwa line on Monday, March 2 2020.
The suspension was initially expected to last for two weeks.
