A press conference was held to address the tragic loss of lives at the Anglo Gold Ashanti mines in Obuasi on January 19th. The conference, led by NPP Director of Communications, Mr. Richard Ahiagbah, condemned the negligence of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President John Dramani Mahama, which led to the loss of 11 lives.

The NPP criticized the NDC’s resort to violence after winning the presidential and legislative elections on December 7th. Despite the NPP’s concession and cooperation with the President-elect’s team, the NDC leadership and President Mahama allegedly allowed their members to take the law into their own hands, attacking and terrorizing Ghanaians.

The conference highlighted several instances of violent attacks by NDC thugs on government institutions, Electoral Commission offices, and police installations. These incidents include the vandalization of the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly, attacks on Cocobod offices, and the burning down of police stations in Ejura and Attebubu.

The NPP emphasized that the NDC must take responsibility for the gruesome murder of their party members in Obuasi. The party’s leadership failed to caution their thugs against lawlessness, leading to the avoidable bloodshed.

The Ghana Police Service has been called upon to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice is served expeditiously. The NPP warned the police against engaging in backroom deals with the John Mahama Administration to shield anyone involved in the violence.
