The National Lottery Authority (NLA), through its Good Causes Foundation, has donated GHS 100,000 to the Blind Support Group and committed an additional GHS 50,000 to the upcoming National Youth Conference, in a bold demonstration of its commitment to social inclusion and youth development in Ghana.
At a brief but symbolic presentation ceremony, Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Salam, Director General of the NLA, stated that the donation to the Blind Support Group falls in line with the Authority’s statutory obligation under *Section 2(3) of its enabling Act — which mandates the NLA to support the poor, destitute, and physically challenged.
“Being physically challenged should never be equated with a life of begging,” Mr. Abdul-Salam emphasized. “The men and women of the Blind Support Group are living examples of ability, dignity, and purpose.”
He also assured that the NLA would continue to work closely with organizations serving vulnerable communities, adding, “This is just the beginning of deeper collaboration to uplift persons living with disabilities (PWDs) through sustainable interventions.”
Receiving the cheque, Mr. Anthony Gyening, Project Coordinator of the Blind Support Group, expressed heartfelt gratitude and noted that the donation would significantly empower members of the community.
“This project is aimed at bridging the gap between the able and disabled through education, training, and accessibility tools,” Mr. Gyening said. “This support means the world to us.”
Support for National Youth Development
Later in the day, the NLA extended additional support to the National Youth Authority (NYA) with a donation of GHS 50,000 to aid the organization of the 2025 National Youth Conference, scheduled for August 10–12 at the KNUST Great Hall in Kumasi.
In announcing the donation, Mr. Abdul-Salam praised the NYA for its efforts in youth empowerment and pledged the NLA’s ongoing support.
“As we improve our operations and revenue, we will do more in line with the vision of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government to empower our people,” he stated.
Mr. Osman Ayariga, Esq., CEO of the National Youth Authority, lauded the gesture and underscored the NLA’s critical role in supporting Ghanaian youth.
“Many of our young people are engaged with the NLA’s operations, and this support is a strong step toward strengthening that relationship,” Mr. Ayariga said. “Beyond the cheque, we look forward to your physical presence in Kumasi for exhibitions, panel discussions, and more.”
He described the support as the beginning of a “healthy and symbiotic relationship” between the two national agencies.
The back-to-back donations by the NLA affirm its growing impact in the social development space, especially in promoting inclusivity and youth engagement as part of Ghana’s broader national development strategy.
