The women’s wing of the governing New Patriotic Party has appealed to all women in Ghana to fast for three days to ask God to heal the land of the deadly coronavirus disease.

Taking inspiration from Psalm 31, the party’s National Women Organiser, Kate Gyamfua, said in a statement that in times where human efforts seem useless, God’s intervention is what is relied on.

She said, unlike previous prayer meetings organised by the women’s wing, there will not be a gathering. She pleaded with the women to start the prayer and fasting from today, Tuesday March 17, to Thursday March 19, starting from 6:00 am daily ending at 6:00 pm daily, in their respective places.

Proper hygiene

Ms Gyamfua also asked the public to ensure proper hygiene to minimise the spread of the virus.

She condemned people who are seeking to score political points with the pandemic urging them to desist from such act, saying “this is the time to rise above partisanship and politics since the COVID-19 does not discriminate in any way. We must all put our shoulder to the wheel to prevent its spread.”

In another development, the Deputy National Youth Organiser of the party, Perpetual Lomokie Akwada, yesterday, distributed hand gloves, sanitizers and nose masks to some market women at Texpo market, Spintex. Taxi and trotro drivers also benefitted from the gesture.

Sensitisation

Speaking to the Daily statesman, Miss Akwada said the “time has come to sensitise our mothers to take charge of their own protection against the COVID-19 virus. The market women are the most vulnerable because they interact with different people each day.”
