The Greater Accra Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service says investigations to unravel the circumstances leading to the death of a military officer, WO11 Robert Dorkor, at Burma camp, in Accra, has commenced.
The regional head of Public Affairs, DSP Juliana Obeng, in a statement last Saturday said the Police Command had initiated investigations into a case of alleged suicide by WO11 Robert Dorku, which occurred last week Friday at Burma Camp.
She disclosed that the incident happened in a bush close to a location known as Power House, where the deceased was found hanging on a tree with a wire around his neck.
According to her, the deceased, aged 45 years old, worked with the Shai Hills Training School of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The body of deceased has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Nima shooting
In the related development, DSP Obeng said the Regional Police Command is also investigating the death of 26-year-old Madam Eunice Kessewa Yeboah, which occurred last week at Nima Free Pipe during a Muslem traditional marriage ceremony.
She explained that the deceased, a fuel station attendant, was accidentally shot in the left buttocks by some participants at the wedding ceremony. The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital and was responding to treatment, but passed on last Tuesday.
The command has since arrested the organizers and the couple to assist with investigations, while opinion leaders have been engaged and informants within the area contacted. The command has appealed to the general public to volunteer information to help in the investigations.
Rape
Also, a special operation by officers of the Formed Police Unit (FPU), with assistance from the Central East Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service, has led to the arrest of 14 Fulani herdsmen in Gomoa Adzintem.
The operation was occasioned by an attack in the town on Thursday night, leading to the defilement of a 13-year-old girl by some armed persons believed to be of Fulani extraction.
The Acting Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, is said to have spoken on phone with the victim’s father while he despatched clinical psychologists to help with counselling of the victim’s family.
According to a statement by the Police, signed by the Acting Director General of Public Affairs, ACP Kwesi Ofori, two single-barrelled and two pump action guns were retrieved from the 14 herdsmen arrested in the operation.
“49 AA ammunitions have also been retrieved,” the statement read.
ACP Kwesi Ofori announced that an identification parade was scheduled to take place today (Monday) in the community for the victims to identify the real suspects.
