President Akufo-Addo(middle) hosted the world’s Robofest champions at the Jubilee House
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says his government is determined to ensure that more Ghanaian students benefit from various Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) centres earmarked to take off across the country.
The President said this when students of Prempeh College, Ghana’s World Robofest champions, paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House on Monday.
“I am very happy to have you here. I want to congratulate each and every one of you on this outstanding achievement,” he said.
He congratulated the students, and said he was happy that the college was making waves in terms of robotics.
“You give me and everybody that is listening to this programme a lot of encouragement – the encouragement about our future. We all know the mastery of artificial intelligence is the way to future prosperity and greatness,” he said.
Very assuring
President Akufo-Addo said it is very assuring to have such young Ghanaians with such talents, adding that Ghana would be the ultimate beneficiary.
“What we have to pray for is that the means to enable you continue this path is constantly made available to us as a state and government,” he said.
The President stressed that the famous Silicon Valley was started by young people just as them, encouraging them that they therefore have the chance to change the way Ghana works.
“So you have it in your power also to come and change how Ghana works and change it for the better. I want to encourage you all to continue…and to say that everything possible that the government can do to make sure that STEM education takes firm root will be done,” he assured.
The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, who led the team, said Prempeh College won the Word Robofest Competition after beating one of the best schools in the United States of America.
