President Akufo-Addo (right) presents the award to Mr Ampofo Appiah, MD of SHC

The Managing Director of the State Housing Company, Kwabena Ampofo Appiah, has been honoured for his sterling performance in rejuvenating the once near dead company. Mr Ampofo Appiah was honoured by the Trades Union Congress during this year’s May Day celebration held over the weekend at the forecourt of the refurbished TUC Head office in Accra.

The TUC singled out Mr Appiah Ampofo for applause for turning around the fortunes of SHC, a feat no Managing Director of the company has ever achieved.

The TUC, in a citation, indicated that Mr Appiah Ampofo was honoured for his “invaluable contribution to the union.”

The award was presented to him by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who was also at the event.

The TUC annually selects outstanding heads of institutions for national recognition and applause during the annual International Labour Day celebration.

Hard work

Mr Ampofo Appiah’s national recognition did not come to many Ghanaians as a surprise. This is due to how he has changed the face of the SHC within few days.

“We are happy that our MD has been awarded for his performance. He has really turned things around since 2017. We hope he continues, and not rest on his oars,” a staff of the company showered praises on his boss in an interview with the media.

President Akufo-Addo, speaking at the event, expressed his profound gratitude to Ghana’s workforce for their immense contribution to keeping the country’s economy afloat during the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to him, their commitment and dedication to service has been significant in adding momentum to the drive towards achieving the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda.

This year’s May Day celebration was under the theme “Economic Recovery in an Era of COVID-19: The role of Social Partners”.
