Alhaji Habib Iddrisu

Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, the newly elected NPP parliamentary candidate for the Tolon constituency, has stated that his topmost priority is to develop the area.

The Deputy Executive Secretary of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, in charge of the Tema enclave, addressing members of the NPP after the primaries, said he would ensure the infrastructure and human capacity development in the area to benefit the people.

He emphasised that the governing party can only increase its electoral fortunes in the area if it is able to send the needed developmental projects and programmes to the people.

Unity

Alhaji Habib assured members of the party that he will work hard to significantly improve on the fortunes of the NPP in the constituency.

He, however, stated that he cannot achieve such a feat if the party’s front is divided, and therefore called on all members of the party to come on board for a successful election.

“We can only succeed by uniting the party’s front. This is the reason why I went further to meet and interact with all aspirants, including the sitting MP, a day after the primaries and I have assured them of giving them roles to play for the sake of the party,” he stated.

“As it stands, there is nothing like Alhaji Habib’s camp or Hon Wahab’s camp. We are all one and we must see each other as one people to ensure the bigger goal, which is securing the seat and working hard to ensure the President’s second term agenda is achieved,” he added.

Alhaji Habib, who was the party’s candidate in the Sagnerigu constituency during the 2016 general election, further called on all party faithful to come on board and begin to strategise for the upcoming voters’ registration exercise scheduled to commence on June 30.

Primaries

During the weekend’s parliamentary primaries, Alhaji Habib polled 338 votes, out of the 542 votes cast, representing 62.36 per cent, to oust two-term MP for the area, Wahab Wumbei Suhuyini, who polled 164 votes.

Other aspirants included Alhaji Jagbo Baako, who had 10 votes; Mohammed Zakaria,  20 votes; and Hajia Amama Sayibu, the only female in the contest, who managed with only two votes.

Alhaji Habib will be facing off with a fresh candidate from the NDC, Yussif Adamu.
