A former National First-Vice Chairman of the governing Patriotic Party, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, has noted that the kind of work done by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government, in less than four years in office, suggests that the governing party will win with a bigger margin in this year’s general election.
According to the Board Chairman of the Lands Commission, the over one million votes difference chalked by the governing party in the 2016 election was just based on promises to Ghanaians, saying Ghanaians have now witnessed the work done by the president and will accordingly reward him.
“Having honestly delivered on our promises, I am convinced that the party will win even bigger this time. In 2016, the votes were on promises; this year, people will vote on our achievements,” Mr Ntim stated.
Speaking to the Daily Statesman in his office yesterday, Mr Ntim said the NPP in less than four years has seen to the successful implementation of majority of its key promises.
Listing some of the party’s flagship programmes such as the Planting for Food and Jobs, Free SHS, NABCO, formalisation of the economy, the massive infrastructural projects, among others, Mr Ntim said Ghanaians now have tangible reasons enough to maintain the NPP in government.
“We have proven to be the party with the magic wand to change this country, and I am convinced that the party will win even bigger this year,” he noted.
No complacency
Notwithstanding the optimism of massive victory, Mr Ntim called on members of the party not to be complacent so as not to shelve the responsibility of campaigning hard to secure the desired resounding victory in the December presidential and parliamentary elections.
He noted that while the NPP has gained the goodwill of the masses, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is also not resting, saying that is why members and sympathisers of the governing party cannot rest.
“The NDC is not resting. They are bent on winning. That is why we also cannot rest. Despite our massive appeal to the masses, we need to work hard.
“I am therefore calling on members of the party, TESCON, volunteer groups, individuals to all rise up and work hard for the party’s victory. We need to consolidate our gains,” he said.
Vigilance and violence
He asked members of the party to treat this year’s election as if the party is in opposition, and become extremely vigilant before, during and after the general elections.
He noted that the party cannot gamble with its chances, and should therefore leave no stone unturned in ensuring that members exhibit the highest form of vigilance in protecting the party’s vote, especially on the day of voting.
He, however, entreated the youth of the party to eschew violence of any form.
“Ours is to be vigilant; let us ignore any form of provocation which could just be smokescreen to distract our attention. The youth in the party should not be involved in any form of violence, but rather focus on ensuring that our votes our protected,” he said.
“With the needed vigilance, I have no doubt that Nana Akufo-Addo will come out with another history of winning with over 1.5million difference,” he added
