The IUSTUM Center for Democracy and Governance (ICEDEG Africa LBG) has expressed its heartfelt sympathies to individuals, families, businesses and communities affected by the devastating floods that swept through parts of Ghana, particularly Accra, on Monday, June 29, 2026.

In a statement issued by its Corporate Communications and Branding Directorate, the Center said it was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives, the displacement of thousands of residents and the widespread destruction of homes, businesses and livelihoods caused by the disaster.

ICEDEG Africa extended its condolences to bereaved families and expressed solidarity with those who sustained injuries, remain missing or have had their lives disrupted by the floods.

Commendation

The Center also paid tribute to personnel of the emergency services, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), healthcare professionals, security agencies, volunteers, faith-based organisations and humanitarian workers for their swift response and dedication during the emergency.

According to the statement, their courage, compassion and selfless service have provided critical support to affected communities during one of the country’s most challenging moments.

Greater Preparedness

Meanwhile, as recovery efforts continue, ICEDEG Africa has called for sustained national solidarity and coordinated assistance to help victims rebuild their lives and restore affected communities.

The center further urged policymakers and relevant stakeholders to use the disaster as an opportunity to strengthen Ghana’s disaster preparedness systems, improve urban planning and enhance resilience against future emergencies.

It stressed that investing in preventive measures and effective emergency response mechanisms would help minimise the human and economic impact of similar disasters in the future.

ICEDEG Africa concluded by reaffirming its thoughts and prayers for all those affected, expressing hope for strength, comfort and a speedy recovery for the nation as it recovers from the tragedy.
