The National Lottery Authority (NLA) will from today, Monday 15, 2021, begin to air on Ghana Television (GTV) its live draws for 5/90 Lotto products.
Apart from Sundays and public holidays, the draws will be aired from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 6:45-7pm.
A statement from the Public Relations Unit of the Authority indicated that the live draw has been re-introduced “to safeguard the reputation, integrity and credibility of the National Lottery Authority and its associated products and services.”
Transparency
It further noted that the move is to maintain and strengthen transparency of the operations of NLA as well as to maintain credibility and integrity of the Authority’s lotto draws.
The statement added that it is also “expected to increase sales and revenue generation for Government and Consolidated Fund for national development”, apart from educating the general public about the draw processes and procedures of the National Lottery Authority.
“The Live Draws will help the Authority combat and eradicate the activities of illegal lottery operations as well as combat and eradicate the activities of lotto fraudsters and scammers,” it added.
The NLA believes that its decision will help to demystify the wrong perceptions in the lottery industry and bring lasting confidence to all stakeholders in the industry.
Live draw suspension
It would be recalled that at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, the NLA suspended its weekly draws and other activities that involve human contacts as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
“In view of the directives by the President of the Republic of Ghana, and letter received from the Association of Lotto Marketing Companies dated 29th March 2020 with reference number ALMC/CV19/DG/NLA/1 requesting for the suspension of the Draw of 5/90 and VAG Lotto Games within the Lockdown period, the National Lottery Authority wishes to inform NLA Staff, Lotto Marketing Companies and the staking public that the Authority shall NOT conduct the usual Draw for 5/90 and VAG Lotto Games within the lockdown period,” it had explained in a press release.
