The municipal chief executive (MCE) of New Juabeng South, Appaw Gyasi Ike, has given the assurance that the area will see massive infrastructural development this year. He said the projects will have direct effect on all other sectors, especially health and education.
Speaking at a press conference in Koforidua on Monday, the MCE called on the people in the area to continue to believe in the New Patriotic Party administration since it has the interest of the locality at heart.
The press conference, according to the MCE, was to afford him the opportunity to bring to light some initiatives of the government in the municipality, such as the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo), the decentralised government scholarships and infrastructural development.
Mr Gyasi reiterated the government’s ambition and determination to achieve the objective of Ghana Beyond Aid with numerous policies and programmes that are meant to better the lives of the citizenry. He called for an all hands-on-deck approach to ensure the rapid development of the municipality.
Achievement
He used the opportunity to outline some successes his administration has achieved since assuming office in August 2018. He spoke about expansion of old markets and building of new ones; improving the drainage system in the area to reduce perennial flooding; distribution of streets light bulbs to enhance security; construction of new lorry terminals; and building of school facilities.
“We would have been ahead of these works, if our predecessors had willingly delivered their duties when they had the mandate,” he said.
No sale of scholarships
The MCE refuted claims that he sold scholarships to applicants from the area.
He disclosed that he had 200 submissions from applicants seeking for scholarships. He said, together with others in a three-member committee, they thoroughly screened the applicants before submitting the list to the scholarships secretariat.
“After submitting the list, I had no dealings with the Scholarships Secretariat. After they had gone through the 200 applications, they made their decisions and invited 40 of them for interviews, who were handed the scholarships to further their education. As I speak to you, all the beneficiaries are in school,” he stated.
He urged the people to eschew propagating unfounded allegations, adding that it will not augur well for the area if such allegations are continued to be spread.
In attendance at the press conference were the municipal police command, municipal education directorate, NPP executives and faithful, representatives from the Ministry of Information, and heads of departments and agencies of the Assembly
