The New Juabeng Traditional area on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 marked the first ever Pan-African Traditional Area Development Day (TADD). This is part of activities marking this year’s Akwantukese, the traditional festival of the people of New Juabeng.

The day, which was graced by the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, saw the Omanhene of New Juabeng, Daasebre Prof. Emeritus Oti Boateng, initiating and sustaining the implementation of his Root-based Sustainable Development (rBED) model.
The model is aimed at reducing poverty, providing basic needs such as housing, foods, education as well as involving the active participation of the citizenry as dignified agents of their own development.
Speaking, Daasebre Oti Boateng stated that the rBED model ultimately is to serve as the basis for a new community development order in Ghana, Africa and regions of growing economies.
“In effect it is a home grown model which seeks to empower community development beyond aid to attain self-security, self-reliance and self-sufficiency,” he said.
He mentioned that Ghanaian communities will have progressively functional development orientation for continuous mass mobilization of resources by citizens, traditional leaders and the community towards investment and community development under the implementation of the model.
Daasebre Oti Boateng believes that when a functional community development is replicated in all traditional areas in Ghana and other communities, poverty, insecurity, risky migration, insurgency and inequalities will be reduced significantly.

The Omanhene also used the day to unveil a Community Economic Development and Investment (CEDI) trust that has been established for all the 12 communities in the traditional area.
LANDMARK HISTORY
The Vice President described the day as a landmark in the history of the nation saying the initiative will help in providing platform for stock taking of community development programs, the role of traditional authorities and chiefs in the country and also set targets in efforts to build up commitments for sustainable development.
He expressed hope that the initiative will serve as a turning point for traditional areas to partner government and the private sector in local level development.
