The campaign team of New Patriotic Party [NPP] National Chairman hopeful Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, has condemned a wave of personal attacks targeting senior members of its management team on social media, and called for a contest focused on ideas rather than insults.
In a statement issued Sunday, Team Wontumi said it had noted “a series of unfortunate videos” circulating on TikTok by an individual identified as “Boya.” According to the statement, the videos contained “unwarranted insults and personal attacks” against Hon. Archibold Cobbina, Director of Field Operations and Delegate Mobilization; Hon. Moses Anim, Director of Political Affairs; Nana Fianko, Director of Special Operations; and other members of the campaign team.
“By examining the public social media activities and affiliations of the said individual, it is not difficult for objective observers to determine the political tendency and Chairmanship bid she appears to support,” the statement said, without naming any rival campaign.
Call for issue-based campaigning
Team Wontumi said it remained committed to a campaign anchored on vision, competence, and party unity, in line with the approach of NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“It is still early days in this internal campaign season, and Team Wontumi remains firmly committed to a campaign based on ideas, vision, competence, and Party unity, not insults, intimidation, or needless character assassination,” the statement read.
The campaign urged the public and party faithful to disregard the videos and reject attempts to introduce hostility into the party’s internal democratic processes.
Appeal to rival camp and party unity
The statement also called on the opposing campaign to rein in its supporters and ensure the contest remains respectful and focused on the collective interest of the NPP.
“We also respectfully call on the opposing campaign, whose sympathizers and surrogates appear to be behind these needless attacks, to rein in their supporters and ensure that this contest remains healthy, respectful, and focused on the collective interest of the New Patriotic Party,” it said.
Warning against internal division ahead of the 2028 general election, Team Wontumi said: “As a Party preparing towards victory in 2028, we must all remember that unity remains our greatest strength. We cannot afford to destroy one another today and expect to build a united front tomorrow.”
The campaign further called on “all well-meaning members of our great Party to openly condemn such conduct before it escalates into something more damaging to our internal cohesion.”
Broad-based movement
Team Wontumi described itself as a broad-based movement with support drawn from the campaigns of nearly all presidential aspirants who contested the NPP’s 31 January presidential primary.
“Our team remains focused, resolute, and fully committed to engaging delegates respectfully and democratically as we continue our quest to convince the overwhelming majority of delegates to support the candidacy of Chairman Wontumi for National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party,” the statement concluded.
