A tragic road accident occurred at Gomoa Okyereko in the Central Region, resulting in the death of at least 16 individuals. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, May 30, 2023, involving a Yutong passenger bus and a fuel tanker. Eyewitnesses reported that the collision between the commercial vehicle and the tanker was so severe that the 16 victims lost their lives instantly.
According to Angel News, a news outlet based in Accra, an additional 25 individuals who suffered various injuries were promptly taken to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for further medical attention. The exact cause of the fatal crash, which transpired around 4:45 am, remains unclear. However, it resulted in a significant traffic congestion along the Accra-Cape Coast highway.
Furthermore, news reports mention that the bus was carrying approximately 40 passengers, most of whom were Liberian nationals.
