Flood in some communities in the locality

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayensuano in the Eastern Region, Samuel Ayeh Paye, has appealed to residents of his district not to build houses on waterways.
He said the decision to build houses on waterways is the reasons why there will always be destruction or disaster when there’s a heavy downpour in the area.
The MP gave this advice when he presented relief items to some 700 inhabitants of the district who were displaced by a rainstorm late last month.
The victims were given 500 bags of cement, 40 packets of roofing sheets and 40 packs of nails.
“These items given to you are my personal contribution towards your welfare and I’m appealing to all of us to stop building houses on waterways,” the MP told the residents.
Tree planting
Mr Ayeh Paye encouraged the residents to plant trees in the community to serve as windbreakers when there’s a heavy downpour with heavy winds.
The MP observed that most buildings in the communities have become too old and require renovation to minimize vulnerability to rainstorm and windstorm disasters.
Meanwhile, the MP has promised to mobilise enough resources to help in more relief support.
Nana Kwakuvi Govina II, the chief of Govinakrom, expressed gratitude to the MP for the assistance provided.
The chief assured the MP that the items would be distributed equitably for the benefit of all the victims.
Some of the affected areas include Otoase, Akokrom, Dokorochiwa, Onakwa Ase, Kofi Pare, Kwaboanta and Govinakrom.
